Update: 5.2 magnitude earthquake shakes close to Kirakira, Solomon Islands on Oct. 23

Thursday afternoon, a 5.2 magnitude quake was reported close to Kirakira, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which struck the area at 05:20 UTC (16:20 local time), was centered roughly 88 km west-northwest of Kirakira. It occurred at a depth of 71 km.

Past week’s quake

Over the last week, there has been one more tremor of magnitude 5.3 centered nearby. Four days ago, it too was detected near Kirakira.
