Update: Seismic activity on Oct. 15 – 5.2 magnitude earthquake close to Vilyuchinsk, Russia detected

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.2 magnitude quake occurred close to Vilyuchinsk Wednesday afternoon.

The tremor shook the area at 05:57 UTC (16:57 local time). It occurred at a depth of 10 km with the epicenter located about 189 km south-southeast of Vilyuchinsk.

Closeby region shaken by two quakes over the week

Over the last week, the area has experienced two tremors exceeding magnitude 2.5, both centered in the same region. The larger, a 4.5 magnitude event, was registered two days earlier, while the other, at magnitude 4.4, struck on October 12.
