Update: Oct. 5 – 5.1 magnitude earthquake detected close to Rabaul, Papua New Guinea

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.1 magnitude quake struck near Rabaul Sunday morning.

The tremor, which jolted the area at 19:23 UTC (05:23 local time), was centered about 95 km west-northwest of Rabaul. It occurred at a depth of 10 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.2 event, but later downgraded it to 5.1.
