Update: Oct. 2 – 5.0 magnitude earthquake detected near Marmara Ereğlisi, Turkey

A 5.0 magnitude quake was recorded close to Marmara Ereğlisi Thursday afternoon, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

It was reported that a tremor jolted the region at 11:55 UTC (14:55 local time). The epicenter was situated about 24 km south of Marmara Ereğlisi, at a depth of 10 km.

Light shaking was registered, with reports from Gebze, Sultanbeyli and İstanbul among the cities where residents experienced the tremor, according to the USGS DYFI report.
