Update: 5.0 magnitude earthquake hits close to Kokopo, Papua New Guinea on Sept. 29

POMIO DISTRICT, East New Britain Province — the U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.0 magnitude quake rattled near Kokopo Monday morning.

A tremor struck the area at 22:48 UTC (08:48 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was located about 116 km south-southwest of Kokopo and occurred at a depth of 79 km.
