Weather alert active for Johnson County early Friday evening – gusts up to 40 mph

A weather alert was issued by the NWS Fort Worth TX on Friday at 3:52 p.m. for strong thunderstorms until 4:15 p.m. for Johnson County.

Residents can look for wind gusts of up to 40 mph.

At 3:52 p.m., the National Weather Service reported that Doppler radar detected a strong thunderstorm over Godley, approximately 7 miles west of Joshua, moving east at 20 mph. The storm could produce gusty winds capable of knocking down tree limbs and blowing around unsecured objects.

The areas affected by this alert include Burleson, Cleburne, Keene, Joshua, Godley, Cross Timber, Lake Pat Cleburne, Rio Vista, Cresson, Briaroaks, Coyote Flats, Sand Flat, and Egan. This includes Interstate 35W between mile markers 28 and 37.

The NWS advises those outdoors to consider seeking shelter inside a building.
