A 5.4 magnitude quake was detected close to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky around midday Friday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor struck the region at 00:22 UTC (11:22 local time). It occurred at a depth of 10 km with the epicenter located roughly 163 km east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
