ALEUTIANS WEST CENSUS AREA, AK — Thursday morning, a 5.2 magnitude quake was registered close to Nikolski, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

At 7:01 p.m. (8:01 a.m. local time), the area was hit by a tremor. The earthquake shook at a depth of 22 miles, with its epicenter approximately 58 miles south-southwest of Nikolski. The magnitude was originally reported as 5.1 but later upgraded to 5.2.

In the past week, the area has experienced eight quakes of magnitude 2.5 or above, two of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The largest one was a 5.9 earthquake that was detected in the same region one day ago.
