Update: 5.2 magnitude earthquake shakes close to Kokopo, Papua New Guinea on Sept. 4

Thursday evening, a 5.2 magnitude quake was reported close to Kokopo, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

It was reported that a tremor hit the region at 09:38 UTC (19:38 local time). The epicenter was located roughly 139 km east-southeast of Kokopo, at a depth of 60 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.3 event, but later downgraded it to 5.2.
