Tropical Storm Fernand: Saturday, Aug 23 update from the NHC on latest developments

At 4 p.m. Saturday, the National Hurricane Center released its initial advisory for a tropical storm. Tropical Storm Fernand is in the Atlantic Ocean, 405 miles south-southeast of Bermuda. Packing maximum sustained winds of 40 mph, the system is tracking to the north at 15 mph.

“… Fernand should move well east of Bermuda and across the open waters of the subtropical North Atlantic”, according to meteorologists. “Some strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Fernand could be near hurricane strength on Monday.” They also said “Weakening is expected to begin on Tuesday.”
