POMIO DISTRICT, East New Britain Province — on Thursday around midnight, a 5.0 magnitude quake was recorded near Kokopo, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which hit the area at 14:06 UTC (00:06 local time), was centered about 125 km southwest of Kokopo. It occurred at a depth of 134 km.
