Update: 5.1 magnitude earthquake recorded close to Abepura, Indonesia on Aug. 12

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.1 magnitude quake occurred close to Abepura Tuesday morning.

At 16:58 UTC (01:58 local time), the region was hit by a tremor. The earthquake jolted at a depth of 14 km, with its epicenter roughly 190 km west-northwest of Abepura.

Tremors past week

Over the last week, there have been five earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 or higher centered nearby, three of them larger than magnitude 6.1. The biggest, a 6.5 magnitude quake, struck the same area prior to this quake.
