On Thursday at 7:53 p.m. the National Weather Service released a fire weather watch valid for Saturday between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. for Upper Arkansas River Valley including Lake County and Chaffee County and San Luis Valley including Alamosa/Del Norte/Fort Garland/Saguache.

Expect winds to be southwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph and relative humidity as low as 10 percent.

“Fires will catch and spread quickly. Exercise extreme caution with any outdoor burning,” comments the NWS.

According to the NWS, a fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
