Earthquake hits area close to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia: 5.3 magnitude registered on July 20

Sunday afternoon, a 5.3 magnitude quake was reported close to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

It was reported that a tremor jolted the region at 06:57 UTC (17:57 local time). The epicenter was situated about 157 km east-southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, at a depth of 10 km.

Tremors past week

Last week, there have been four tremors with a magnitude 2.5 or higher centered nearby, two of them larger than magnitude 7. The largest one was a 7.0 magnitude earthquake that was detected in the same region prior to this quake.
