July 20: Earthquake of 5.6 magnitude detected close to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.6 magnitude quake shook close to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Sunday afternoon.

The tremor hit the area at 06:56 UTC (17:56 local time). It occurred at a depth of 10 km with the epicenter located roughly 150 km east-southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

Tremors past week

Over the last week, there have been four tremors with a magnitude 2.5 or greater centered nearby, two of them larger than magnitude 7. The largest one was a 7.0 magnitude earthquake that was recorded in the same region prior to this quake.
