Update: 5.2 magnitude earthquake hits close to Severo-Kuril’sk, Russia on July 30

Wednesday afternoon, a 5.2 magnitude quake was recorded near Severo-Kuril’sk, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

At 04:29 UTC (15:29 local time), the region was struck by a tremor. The earthquake jolted at a depth of 10 km, with its epicenter about 141 km east-southeast of Severo-Kuril’sk.

Tremors last week

Last week, four quakes of magnitude 2.5 or above have been reported in the area. The largest one was a 5.9 magnitude earthquake that was detected in the same region prior to this quake.
