Earthquake measuring 5.0 hits area close to Severo-Kuril’sk, Russia on July 30

A 5.0 magnitude quake was registered close to Severo-Kuril’sk Wednesday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor rattled at 22:25 UTC (08:25 local time), with its epicenter situated approximately 102 km south of Severo-Kuril’sk and a depth of 35 km.

Tremors past week

Four tremors of magnitude 5.5 or above have been recorded in the region last week, four of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The most significant was a 5.7 magnitude earthquake detected in the same region prior to this quake.
