Update: July 30 – 5.0 magnitude earthquake detected near Macquarie Island region

A 5.0 magnitude quake was reported close to Macquarie Island region Wednesday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

It was reported that a tremor struck the region at 07:09 UTC (17:09 local time). The epicenter was located of Macquarie Island region, at a depth of 10 km.

Tremors past week

Over the last week, there have been six tremors with a magnitude 6.1 or above centered nearby. The biggest, a 7.0 magnitude quake, shook the same area one day ago.
