At 12:20 p.m. on Wednesday, the NWS Fort Worth TX issued an updated heat advisory in effect until 7 p.m. The advisory is for Denton, Collin, Tarrant, Dallas, Montague, Cooke, Grayson, Fannin, Lamar, Hunt, Delta, Hopkins, Rockwall, Kaufman, Van Zandt, Rains, Ellis, Henderson, Navarro and Anderson counties.

The NWS says to prepare for, “Heat index values up to 107 degrees and temperatures up to 104 degrees.”

“Hot temperatures and high humidity will increase the risk for heat-related illnesses to occur, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities,” adds the NWS.

This advisory is in effect until 7 p.m.

Tips from the NWS for staying safe during a heat wave

• Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of fluids.

• Find cool shelter: Stay in an air-conditioned room.

• Avoid direct sun exposure: Protect yourself and check on vulnerable relatives and neighbors.

• Protect your little ones and furry friends: Never leave young children and pets alone in vehicles, especially during hot weather when car interiors can become dangerously hot in a matter of minutes.

• Be cautious outdoors: Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside.

• Consider the timing: When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.

• Be alert to warning signs: Educate yourself about the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

• Stay cool with clothing: Select lightweight and loose-fitting outfits for enhanced comfort.

For a safer outdoor work environment, follow the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)’s guidance by scheduling regular rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned places. If anyone shows signs of heat illness, promptly move them to a cool, shaded area. In an emergency, call 911.
