Earthquake measuring 5.0 rattles area close to Adak, AK on July 21

ALEUTIANS WEST CENSUS AREA, AK—A 5.0 magnitude quake was reported close to Adak Monday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which hit the region at 7:07 p.m. (10:07 a.m. local time), was centered roughly 170 miles west-southwest of Adak. It occurred at a depth of 23 miles.

Adak rattled twice last week

During the past week, in the same area experienced two tremors above magnitude 2.5. Both had a magnitude of 4.0, with one occurring seven days ago and the other on July 14.
