Seismic activity on July 13: Earthquake near Petrolia, CA detected – magnitude 2.1

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a preliminary 2.1 magnitude quake occurred near Petrolia Sunday morning.

The tremor, which shook the area at 7:39 a.m., was centered about 10 miles west-northwest of Petrolia. It occurred at a depth of 12 miles.

Tremors last week

In the past week, seven tremors with a magnitude 2.5 or greater have been recorded in the region. The strongest, a 3.1 magnitude quake, was registered in the same region three days ago.
