Update: 2.5 magnitude earthquake shakes close to Ocotillo, CA on July 12

IMPERIAL COUNTY, CA — Saturday evening, a preliminary 2.5 magnitude quake was recorded near Ocotillo, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

At 7:32 p.m., the region was rattled by a tremor. The earthquake struck at a depth of just 3 miles, with its epicenter approximately 10 miles east-northeast of Ocotillo.

Tremors last week

Six quakes of magnitude 2.5 or above have been detected in the area during the past week. The most significant was a 4.3 magnitude earthquake registered near Calipatria two days earlier.
