System name: Chantal
The National Hurricane Center’s 4 pm Monday advisory reported that Chantal became a post-tropical cyclone with sustained winds of 25 mph after intensifying from a tropical depression. Chantal first crossed North Carolina, passed through Virginia and then headed to Delaware. Post Tropical Cyclone Chantal is 35 miles north of Ocean City Maryland and 10 miles southwest of Cape May New Jersey. With maximum sustained winds of 25 mph, the system is moving northeast at 21 mph.
“Little change in strength is forecast tonight”, meteorologists stated.
Today, Chantal found new strength and has evolved from a tropical depression into a post-tropical cyclone with sustained winds of 25 mph.

Hazards affecting land
Rainfall. Post-Tropical Cyclone Chantal will continue to produce heavy rainfall across portions of the Delmarva, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania into this evening. Additional rainfall of 1 to 3 inches, with local amounts to 5 inches, is expected. Isolated to scattered flash flooding is possible.

Surf. Life-threatening surf and rip current conditions are expected to continue at beaches along the U.S. east coast from northeastern Florida to the Mid-Atlantic states during the next day or so.
