Update: Earthquake of 5.7 magnitude detected close to Ōfunato, Japan on Aug. 21

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.7 magnitude quake occurred near Ōfunato Thursday morning.

The tremor hit at 22:34 UTC (07:34 local time), with its epicenter situated roughly 66 km southeast of Ōfunato and a depth of 40 km.
