A tremor hit the area at 04:13 UTC (12:13 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was located roughly 37 km east-southeast of Santiago and occurred at a depth of 37 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.5 event, but later downgraded it to 5.4.
