5.3 magnitude earthquake registered near Sand Point, AK on July 17

ALEUTIANS EAST BOROUGH, AK—Thursday afternoon, a 5.3 magnitude quake was detected close to Sand Point, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor jolted at 4:30 a.m. (5:30 p.m. local time), with its epicenter situated about 63 miles south-southeast of Sand Point and a depth of 20 miles.
