5.2 magnitude earthquake shakes close to Beluga, AK on Feb. 4

MATANUSKA-SUSITNA BOROUGH, AK — According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a preliminary 5.2 magnitude quake hit near Beluga Wednesday morning.

At 3:24 p.m. (6:24 a.m. local time), the region was jolted by a tremor. The earthquake struck at a depth of 62 miles, with its epicenter approximately 29 miles north-northwest of Beluga.

Last week, there was one quake of magnitude 2.5 centered in the area, which was registered close to Tyonek prior to this quake.
