Update: Earthquake measuring 5.2 shakes area close to Asadābād, Afghanistan on Aug. 31

NURGAL, Kunar — Sunday morning, a 5.2 magnitude quake was registered close to Asadābād, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor jolted at 21:33 UTC (02:03 local time), with its epicenter located approximately 38 km west-southwest of Asadābād and a depth of 10 km.

Quakes past week

During the last week, two earthquakes, greater than magnitude 2.5, have been centered nearby. The stronger, a magnitude 6.0 tremor, was detected in the same region prior to this quake. The other, measuring 4.5, rattled near Bāsawul on August 1.
