Update: Earthquake measuring 5.1 strikes area close to Yamada, Japan on April 20

A 5.1 magnitude quake shook close to Yamada on Monday night, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which hit the region at 12:56 UTC (22:56 local time), was centered roughly 118 km east of Yamada. It occurred at a depth of 26 km.

Five quakes of magnitude 2.5 or above have been reported in the region in the past week, two of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The most significant was a 7.4 magnitude earthquake recorded near Miyako prior to this quake.
