Update: 5.2 magnitude earthquake jolts near Tobelo, Indonesia on Jan. 10

A 5.2 magnitude quake was registered close to Tobelo Saturday night, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

It was reported that a tremor hit the region at 15:15 UTC (23:15 local time). The epicenter was located approximately 242 km north-northwest of Tobelo, at a depth of 45 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.1 event, but later upgraded it to 5.2.

Past week’s tremor

Another magnitude 6.4 quake was detected in the area last week; it also occurred close to Tobelo prior to this quake.
