5.0 magnitude earthquake shakes close to Vallenar, Chile on April 24

COPIAPÓ PROVINCE, Atacama — A 5.0 magnitude quake occurred close to Vallenar on Friday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor rattled the area at 13:49 UTC (09:49 local time). It occurred at a depth of 64 km with the epicenter about 76 km north-northwest of Vallenar.
